Project Scope

Kumbya Missionary Conference is an annual meeting that brings together missionaries and others working cross culturally in the Great Lakes Region of Africa. The Kumbya Missionary Association is a demonstration of the Body of Christ working together: a joint venture of 8 different missions groups.  The purpose of the conference is to provide a place and time for networking, rest and spiritual refreshment as well as a time for missionaries to network and share sucesses, challenges and lessons learned with each other.  From the 1940’s this confrence has been meeting annually (with the exception of 5 years following the genocide).  For 60+ years they’ve been meeting on a pennisula that extends into Lake Kivu in western Rwanda. Now, the Kumbya confrence desires to develop this area as an eco-tourism camp.

The site will also allow tourists, during times when the conference isn’t meeting, to experience the natural beauty of God’s creation at Kumbya.  A portion of the profits of the project will also help fund local community development projects and construction and operation of the facility will provide jobs for local people. As an eco-tourism site, Kumbya’s desire is to develop the site using as many local materials, renewable resources, and appropriate technologies as possible. Come be a part of this project assisting Kumbya in being good stewards of their resources and caring for God’s creation!
